Team Effort Rescues Fallen Horse Rider
Republic, WA. August 6. The Ferry County Search and Rescue Team with the assistance from members of the Ferry County Sheriff and Dispatch, Ferry County EMS, the Forest Service and the Border Patrol, and Stevens County EMS rescued an injured horseback rider on the Kettle Crest Trail in the Colville National Forest. The middle-aged woman suffered a broken collar bone and fractured ribs after being thrown from her horse.
Members of Ferry County Search and Rescue Team (SAR), assisted by friends of the woman, used SAR’s special wheeled rescue litter to transport the injured party down a steep trail. After several hours of coordinated effort, the injured woman was transferred to a waiting ambulance. Extra effort was made by Ferry County Deputy Ray Maycumber to quickly get Ferry County EMT Jeannie Hughes to the injured woman.
