Search and rescue is a life-saving skill that demands continuous training. Members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team are trained in rural and wilderness environments and strive to be a well-prepared squad. Our skills are maintained by hands-on training in rescue techniques, unique equipment, survival techniques, plus First Aid and CPR. Both field and classroom training are employed. |

FCSAR Completes Fall Field Training
Republic, WA Oct. 9-10-11. Twelve members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team (FCSAR) recently completed a three day field training in the Colville National Forest. Members completed a variety of training seminars including 24 hr. survival pack; search management and mission planning; land navigation; evacuation using litters; a realistic night search and a special K-9 deployment and search exercise.
Ferry County Search and Rescue now has a specially trained man-tracker bloodhound on the team. Dog owner/handler Randy Brisbane completed many hours of training to qualify his dog for search and rescue. The addition of a search dog greatly enhances the team’s ability to successfully locate lost persons. |

Republic, WA. Spring 2007. Members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team completed an all day search exercise focused on incident command, hasty team deployment, radio communication, road search, and subject rescue using a litter. The Mobile Command Center was set up on local DNR land and used as the base. Members utilized GPS, maps and compass, and mobile radios. |

Ferry County Airport. Members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team along with members of Ferry County Fire Protection Districts #13 and #14 participated in an exclusive helicopter medical evacuation training provided by Northwest MedStar, the regions critical care air transport service. Attendees learned ground procedures, landing zone considerations, directing the helicopter crew, use of the Ferry County SAR all-terrain stretcher, familiarization of the helicopter, and the capabilities of the MedStar team. The training was organized by EMT and SAR members Jeannie and Denny Hughes. |

Colville National Forest. The Ferry County Search and Rescue Team assisted by the Republic Treebenders Snowmobile Club completed a winter rescue training course focusing on incident command, field orientation, and subject rescue using snowmobiles. Volunteers from the Treebenders snowmobile club in Republic supported the rescue teams with snowmobiles including their special enclosed snowmobile rescue sled. |

Okanogan Highlands. A special team of four United States Air Force rescue and survival trainers from Fairchild AFB conducted exclusive courses for the Ferry and Okanogan County Search and Rescue Teams. Courses included wilderness fire making; survival shelter building; wild game snaring; and ground to air rescue signaling. Both Search and Rescue Teams participate in ongoing training courses to update and enhance their knowledge and experience. |

Emenclaw, WA. Six members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team enhanced their training and experience by attending the three day, state-wide search and rescue conference. Courses included: wilderness medicine; GPS and mapping; survival psychology; swiftwater rescue; search planning; forensic entomology; bone identification; rope rescue; and many others. |

Republic, WA. Members of the Ferry County Search and Rescue Team participated in a two day training titled, Survival for Search and Rescue Teams. The course was taught by Ralph Wilfong and included one day of classroom instruction followed by one day of hands-on training in the field. Topics included subject transport using a litter, survival shelters, fire making, SAR pack equipment and more. |
